Chevron today announced oil and gas production had begun at the Jack/St. Malo project in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The Jack and St. Malo fields are located within 25 miles of each other in about 7,000 feet of water approximately 280 miles south of New Orleans. Chevron said production from the first development stage is expected to ramp up to 94,000 barrels per day of oil and 21 million cubic feet per day of gas in the next several years.
The fields were discovered in 2003 and 2004 and have a planned production life of more than 30 years. George Kirkland, vice chairman and executive vice president of Upstream for Chevron, said the project would support the company’s production target of 3.1 million barrels per day by 2017.
