NRF BioEnergy on Monday announced plans to build biorefineries at more than 10 sugar refineries across South Louisiana. Via the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the biorefineries will convert bagasse into energy pellets that can be used to fuel power plants. NFR has already begun to develop its first biorefinery at the Cora Texas Sugar Mill in White Castle, La.
The company expects to have all the biorefineries built by the end of 2018. The $312 million project will create more than 2,300 new direct and indirect jobs in Louisiana, according to Louisiana Economic Development. NFR BioEnergy is currently based in New York, but it is planning to move its corporate headquarters to White Castle while the first phase of the project is in progress.
