Canadian firm Husky Energy today announced it would spend $300 million to upgrade its Lima, Ohio, refinery to process more heavy crude varieties. The Lima refinery upgrade will include modifying the plant’s coker and processing units with an eye toward processing up to 40,000 barrels per day of heavy crude by 2017. The refinery upgrade will support Husky’s increased heavy crude production in Western Canada and improve feedstock flexibility. Last year Husky brought a new kerosene hydrotreater online at Lima to increase the facility’s distillate capacity.
