Alon USA received the necessary approvals to upgrade its Bakersfield, Calif., refinery to process light crude and build a rail facility at the refinery. Alon said it would make minor upgrades and unit changes at the refinery but would not increase its processing capacity or crude throughput. Alon will build a double rail loop within the refinery’s boundaries capable of receiving two unit trains of crude oil per day. The rail facility is expected to be complete by the end of 2015.
“We are very pleased to receive the permit for our Bakersfield crude flexibility project and grateful for the community’s support of this initiative,” Alon CEO Paul Eisman said. “With this approval in hand, we are ready to start detailed engineering.”
