Regulators in Colorado approved a new set of rules that restrict methane emissions from oil and gas operations in the state. The Environmental Defense Fund and a group of energy firms that included Anadarko and Encana drew up the new regulations jointly. Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper requested the rules in order to reduce smog levels in the Rocky Mountain region. It is the first time a state has enacted rules to curb methane emissions.
