Two people were killed in separate incidents in the downstream and upstream sectors Thursday afternoon.
One worker was killed at a construction site at ExxonMobil’s Baytown, Texas, olefins plant. An ExxonMobil spokesman said emergency responders immediately attended to the victim, who was a subcontractor employee.
Via FuelFix, one worker was killed and three others were injured in an explosion at an offshore platform operated by Fieldwood Energy about 12 miles from the Louisiana coast. Federal regulators are investigating the incident. Houston-based Fieldwood said in a statement the facility had not been damaged and there was no pollution that resulted from the explosion. The site was not producing oil or gas at the time of the incident. The three injured workers, all of whom work for Turnkey Cleaning Services, were treated at a New Orleans hospital and released. The deceased worker was also a Turnkey employee.
The accidents occurred less than a week after four workers were killed in a toxic chemical release at DuPont’s La Porte, Texas, plant.
