Advanced Power Services has received final approval to build an $800 million, 742-megawatt natural gas-fired power plant near Carrollton, Ohio, Platts reported on Monday. The Ohio Power Siting Board granted the Boston-based firm conditional authorization to begin construction of the facility, which will kick off either late this year or in early 2015.
Advanced Power Services first announced the project last July, saying it would help meet the state’s electricity needs amid the impending retirements of coal-fired power plants. The plant will use GE Energy’s gas turbine technology.
