A U.S. district court judge has approved a $20.8 billion settlement between BP, the Justice Department five states and more than 400 local governments over the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Via Reuters, BP will pay $5.5 billion to the Justice Department in Clean Water Act fines and a total of $4.9 billion to Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi. The British oil company will also pay $7.1 billion to restore coastline damage in those states.
