Ethanol plants are starting their maintenance season earlier than usual due to dwindling profits and sluggish demand, Reuters reports. According to the federal government, total production of corn-based biofuels fell for a fourth straight week last week to an average of 924,000 barrels per day. Ethanol producers’ profit margins are down 70% from a year ago.
