HOUSTON — McDonough Elevators is honored to be a part of NASA’s milestone project, the new Space Launch System that will take humans to Mars. Currently under construction on the B-2 Test Stand at Stennis Space Center in Mississippi is a modification of the Test Stand framework. The modification will extend the framework higher by 100 feet and include an additional 1 million pounds of structural steel.
McDonough began the installation of a single-car elevator for the purpose of safely moving workers and materials to multiple levels of the Test Stand during the construction. When the stand’s interior elevator was down for repairs, the McDonough elevator was the only point of access. McDonough’s experienced elevator technicians continue to successfully manage the many challenges created by working on live launch sites.
