CHICAGO — With the help of Imperial Crane, Chicago Bears fans will experience replays, video features, in-game stats and scores on two new video scoreboards at Soldier Field. Imperial Crane replaced the existing scoreboards that were in place since 2003 in the south and north end zones. The newest scoreboards measure 128 feet wide and 40 feet high. The new scoreboards will have the highest video quality in the NFL and will be 310-percent larger than the previous scoreboards.
One of the challenges of this job was to protect the football field while driving two cranes weighing over 200,000 pounds. Imperial placed matting down on the field to protect the irrigation system 6 inches below the grass. Imperial also hoisted the glass curtain walls from the exterior of the field to complete the scoreboard project. With the new scoreboards in place, this football season will be especially exciting for Bears fans.
