HATFIELD, Pa. — Curtiss-Wright EST Group recently introduced a tube plugging system for air-cooled heat exchangers. This new tube plugging method eliminates the need to use hammered-in tapered pins that are often welded to the tube sheet.
In addition to the time saved using the Pop-A-Plug® system to plug leaking tubes, an additional benefit is the plugs can be just as easily removed when the time comes to re-fit the heat exchanger with new tubes.
The process to remove the Pop-A-Plug is simple:
1. Release the seal between the pin and the ring by threading the tip of the spear into the pin and using the slide hammer.
2. Grip the ring by threading the tapered spear into the ring inner diameter.
3. Release the seal between the ring OD and the tube ID with the slide hammer.
