Accounting and advisory firm Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP (Baker Tilly) is pleased to announce that Vijay Betanabhatla, an experienced energy and utilities consultant, has been elected to the board of directors as treasurer for the Texas Renewable Energy Industries Alliance (TREIA).
TREIA is a network of project developers, corporations, financial institution end-users, utilities, manufacturers, service providers, academia and government leaders working to scale renewable energy, grow the local economy and create jobs. Their industry stakeholders are involved in solar, wind, biomass, biofuel, energy efficiency, geothermal, hydro, ocean and energy storage. Learn more about TREIA at treia.org.
“I am honored to join TREIA’s board of directors and represent Baker Tilly and renewable energy stakeholders in Texas,” Betanabhatla said. “This is an exciting time as clean energy technologies are transforming the electric industry.”
Betanabhatla has more than a decade of experience in the energy industry in grid operations, electricity markets, renewable energy, distributed energy resources and energy finance. He specializes in strategic, resource optimization and capital procurement for utilities, renewable energy developers, manufacturers and state, local and tribal governments.
“Vijay is an accomplished leader and strong advocate for renewable energy growth in Texas,” Thomas Unke, Baker Tilly partner and energy and utilities practice leader, said. “We are proud of his appointment and are confident he will bring great value to TREIA.”
Before joining Baker Tilly, Betanabhatla worked at the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), an independent system operator, where he supported control room operations. He played a lead role in many prestigious ERCOT projects, including the Texas Nodal project.
Betanabhatla is an active member of the Austin Technology Incubator, CleanTX and Gulf Coast Power Association. He is also the incoming chair for TREIA’s luncheon and webinar committee, and in 2017, he served as a speaker and organizing committee member for the GridNEXT conference.
