When faced with a planned or an emergency tower shutdown, proven products and an experienced team with a sense of urgency make the difference in maximizing efficiencies and minimizing cost. AMACS Process Tower Internals has that winning combination, touting a complete line of equipment and services for column upgrades, repairs, maintenance and turnarounds, and a dedicated response team available when and where customers need them, day or night.
Engineering and manufacturing located in Houston
Vice President Tom Wilson said, “Many people do not realize AMACS is the largest mass transfer and separations internals manufacturer with an engineering and production facility located in Houston for over 50 years. Customers appreciate AMACS’ close proximity when an emergency or immediate need arises. Due to our convenient location, visiting the facility for approval drawings, clarification, inspecting and expediting the equipment helps achieve customers’ critical schedules. When production stops, every minute means lost revenue, so speed and performance are everything.”
AMACS products cover a broad spectrum of industries such as refineries, gas, petrochemical and chemical processing plants, biofuels production, waste water treatment, mining, even food and beverage. “Since AMACS works with a variety of customers, we will develop the correct products to meet each customer’s requirements. Wherever there is a need for mass transfer and/or separation technologies, AMACS can provide a rapid and accurate solution,” said Wilson.
A global tower internals ‘pit crew’
“We frequently manufacture custom internals, including replacement trays and packing, in days not weeks,” said Patricia Bareis, director of sales. “Our quick response support team is a major factor in minimizing downtime when customers experience a critical outage or scheduled turnaround. AMACS can evaluate the process equipment requirements with a quick phone call, advise the best action plan to meet a critical time schedule and provide solutions within a few hours. In fact, we like to think of our response team as our customers’ ‘pit crew,’ identifying problems quickly, getting in and out fast, working with perfectly timed precision and providing a winning combination of proven products and unparalleled service.”
Leading mass transfer and separation technologies
AMACS has an extensive portfolio of mass transfer and separation equipment. AMACS, the North American licensee for the Montz sheet metal and gauze structured packing, manufactures packing in a variety of metal materials, surface textures and sizes. AMACS remains customer focused, supplying trays, tower internals, inventoried random packing and hardware in a wide range of alloys. Bareis said, “There are two general types of mist eliminators — mesh and vane — and AMACS engineers and manufactures both styles. This complete product line allows us to provide mass transfer, separations and hardware solutions that meet our customers’ unique applications.”
AMACS’ process engineering team has vast experience in applying these product technologies. They possess the knowledge to deliver complete engineered solutions for challenging process vessel requirements. This critical process design support provides significant value and confidence for the successful completion of capital projects, planned turnarounds or emergency shutdowns. Process vessels and drums often have complex internal access requirements as well as variable operating conditions that require special consideration when designing, fabricating and installing process internals. Application engineering reviews the process conditions, internal hydraulic loading specifications and drawings to assure the correct internals solution is provided. “AMACS is more than a replacement-in-kind or make-to-print company,” said Separations Technology Manager Kanti Patel. “We have numerous technology patents and significant engineering capability to offer our customers.”
Tower hardware on consignment
Bareis said, “We offer installation hardware for mass transfer internals from any manufacturer. Hardware trailers/lockers can be delivered to the jobsite during turnarounds to support inspection, cleaning and removal of existing trays and internals, which saves time and reduces costs.” AMACS’ hardware trailers/lockers are completely stocked with the specific inventory of each tower, including standard tray hardware such as valves, clamps and fasteners in most common materials such as carbon steel, 410 ss, 304L ss and 316L ss. Exotic materials can be provided as required. The hardware is purchased on consignment, so customers only pay for the hardware used and turnarounds stay on time and on budget.
Responding to customers’ specific needs
Bareis said, “Being responsive to our customers’ needs is crucial to our successful partnership. We must be available to our customers for technical and commercial questions, support or troubleshooting. Our ‘pit crew’ company culture developed over many decades and is embraced by everyone in our organization, which ensures customers improved quality and on-time deliveries.”
AMACS is dedicated to continued growth and product innovation. The company regularly invests in R&D and is continuously expanding its manufacturing facilities and capabilities, dependent on customers’ requirements.
Wilson said, “It says it all in our ‘Visions and Values’ statement: We want to be the ‘best-in-class’ designer and supplier of process tower internals to the industries we serve, with technically sound service that is customer oriented and of the highest quality and integrity. Every AMACS employee understands the vision and embraces his or her role in making it happen. We would like to show you the AMACS difference.”
