Oliver Wiese, senior vice president of industrial sales for the Treatment Solutions division of SUEZ in North America, believes there is no such thing as a perfect person, but a perfect team does exist. Wiese is someone who attributes a large part of his success to having the right people working next to him. BIC Magazine recently sat down with Wiese to learn more about SUEZ’s new branding, his position during these exciting times, and how SUEZ in North America will more directly apply its global experience, technology and expertise to create more effective, innovative and efficient solutions for the customers, communities and businesses it serves.
Q: What led to your position at SUEZ?
A: I began my career in management consulting, which provided exposure to multiple assignments and various industries. I developed a deep passion for the water treatment industry, as water is one of the most important resources today and water limitations have a growing impact on society and the economy. In my former positions, I went through multiple functions, from strategy to operations and finally business development and sales. From all these different experiences, I have enjoyed customer-engaging positions the most. What attracted me to my current position with SUEZ is the company is an integrated water and wastewater solutions provider with a complete portfolio of proprietary technologies and services, which provides the opportunity to work on large and complex water treatment projects resolving unique customer challenges.
Q: What is SUEZ’s biggest news right now?
A: Right now our company is experi-encing exciting and challenging times because all well-known legacy companies such as Anderson Water Systems, Infilco Degremont, Poseidon, Process Group, Ozonia, and Water and Power Technologies recently adopted our parent company’s brand: SUEZ. This change is part of our global initiative to unify a complex, multibrand structure into one recognizable name. This provides a huge advantage for our customers that can now work with a global and integrated player that leverages the capabilities of a company that operates on five continents.
Q: What is the most important part of your position?
A: From a business perspective, it is building and maintaining customer relationships. From a management perspective, it is building the right team. In the industrial markets where we operate, everything depends on trust built upon good experience, flawless execution and customer service.
Q: Are you looking to grow in new markets or expand in current ones?
A: Our core strength has always been in heavy industries, and we are continuously looking for ways to expand our portfolio in these markets. In 2014/2015 SUEZ acquired two companies, Poseidon Inc. and Process Group, which will help us expand and solidify our presence in the upstream and downstream oil and
gas markets.
Q: Do you have a favorite quote?
A: “Nobody is perfect, but a team can be.” This proved to be very true during my career. A big part of my success is due to having the right people by my side. I especially learned to value the strength of diverse teams and leverage the capabilities of people with different backgrounds.
