Marathon Petroleum executives told analysts yesterday the company has nearly doubled its exports of refined products so far this year. Company CEO Gary Heminger said exports of gasoline and distillates had reached 245,000 barrels per day in the quarter, compared to 124,000 bpd during the same period last year. Marathon is rapidly increasing exports from the Texas City, Texas, refinery it purchased from BP in February. Heminger expressed his pleasure with the improvements made at the refinery since his company took over, saying Marathon continues to “gather synergies at a faster clip” than was expected. He indicated the Galveston Bay refinery has the potential to be the same kind of success story Marathon’s Garyville, La., plant has been over the years. The company, he said, is exploring ways to optimize the refinery’s dock to increase export capacity further.
