Phillips 66 won approval from local authorities for a butane and propane recovery project at its Rodeo, Calif., refinery. The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday voted 4-1 in favor of the project, which would include the installation of a new hydrotreater, six storage vessels and new rail spurs to ship recovered propane and butane out of the refinery.
Via the Contra Costa Times, environmental advocacy groups fought the project for over a year on the grounds it would increase crude processing in the area. Phillips 66 claimed the size of the project was based on existing crude oil processing volumes.
