BASF and Yara International broke ground today on a $600 million ammonia plant at BASF’s Freeport, Texas, site. The plant will have a capacity of approximately 750,000 metric tons of ammonia per year. It is expected to start up in 2017.
Yara will own 68% of the plant, and BASF will own the remaining 32%. Yara will build an ammonia tank at BASF’s terminal and BASF will upgrade its terminal and pipelines for ammonia export as part of the project.
