When Reagens, a global-scale manufacturer of specialty chemicals for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and other thermoplastics, needed its wastewater treated, the company turned to the Gulf Coast Waste Disposal Authority (GCA). Reagens uses GCA’s Bayport facility located in the Bayport Industrial Complex in Pasadena. This treatment plant provides wastewater treatment for most of the industries in the complex.
“GCA does a great job of letting us know if our water is ever ‘out of spec,’ such as the pH running lower or higher than our parameters,” said Joe Jenko, plant manager for Reagens USA Inc. “GCA also takes care of the wastewater permit, making sure it is renewed and kept up to date. They are also responsible for the air permits for the facility. I’m happy with the way GCA is handling our wastewater and ensures we don’t fall out of grace with state or federal regulations. It’s good to know GCA has an environmental manager at its facility who keeps tabs on us to make sure we are in compliance.”
Reagens USA was founded in 2003, and it has become a leading supplier for a wide range of tin-based stabilizers and lubricants for PVC in the Central and North American market. The company also manufactures thioesters for nonvinyl applications in Pasadena. Jenko, who has been a plant manager for a year, meets with GCA once a month in the Bay Area Community Advisory Panel meetings.
“I like that GCA has industrial user meetings and invites companies to visit its plant to discuss what projects are taking place there,” Jenko explained. “GCA has constant communication with us and keeps us afloat on what’s happening with not only our water but also other companies’ wastewater it’s receiving. I’m very happy with its reliable services and what the company does for us.”
GCA’s Bayport facility also receives wastewater from two municipal sources. The treated water is then discharged into the Bayport Ship Channel.
