The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on Friday rejected a proposal by Veresen and Williams Partners to build the Jordan Cove LNG export terminal in Oregon. Via Bloomberg, the commission said the project failed to demonstrate that its gas supply pipeline would outweigh adverse effects on landowners. Without the pipeline, the project would provide no net benefit to the public, FERC said.
Veresen said it would request a re-hearing for the project and would continue to advance negotiations with customers.
Bloomberg notes that it is the first LNG export terminal to be rejected by the federal government since the shale boom began. FERC has approved at least seven other proposals.
