Mustang Sampling, the innovator of Analytically Accurate® Technology within sample conditioning, recently supplied the nation's first commercial LNG bunkering solution to Harvey Gulf International Marine. The challenges to design and commission an LNG shore-to-ship bunkering station required the expertise and knowledge only an industry leader like Mustang Sampling could provide.
Harvey Marine constructed the first LNG marine fueling facility in the U.S., located at its vessel facility in Port Fourchon, Louisiana. The facility is a pivotal addition to the growing national LNG supply infrastructure and aids in critical operations of the oil and gas industry's offshore support vessel fleet that operates on clean-burning natural gas. Utilizing LNG as a marine fuel can greatly reduce emissions compared to diesel fuel, and storage capacity is more than double compressed natural gas. The design and accuracy of the facility's sampling system are critical to the proper determination of the fuel's energy value and methane number.
Mustang Sampling's sample conditioning systems are key measurement components across all segments of the energy industry, delivering representative samples of natural gas, natural gas liquids or LNG for analysis. "Representative" means the sample delivered to the analyzer is identical to the fluid in the vessel. For LNG, a flanged Mustang Certiprobe® coupled to a section of Mustang Vacuum Jacketed Tubing provides a pathway to a Mustang Intelligent Vaporizer Sampling System®, where it is flash-vaporized. The pressure is reduced using a Mustang Heated Regulator before being delivered to a gas chromatograph. The entire process is carefully controlled and recorded using Mustang Sampling's SoftView® LNG Monitor software. Together, these components form an Analytically Accurate system and method to determine the energy and composition of LNG, enabling cleaner and more efficient marine vessels to operate in the nation's coastal areas, rivers, lakes and harbors.
