Cheniere Energy is preparing to export the first natural gas from U.S. shale plays from its Sabine Pass LNG facility in southwestern Louisiana. Via Bloomberg, Cheniere is receiving and storing about 50 million cubic meters per day for the first export, which is expected later this month. UK firm BG Group is contracted to receive the first shipment.
Cheniere is building six liquefaction trains at the facility, with a goal of completing them all by late 2018.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has approved four LNG export facilities to be built and operated in southwestern Louisiana. Last month it granted BG Group and Energy Transfer Partners permission to build their proposed Lake Charles LNG facility.
