BASF has agreed to acquire Albemarle’s global surface treatment business for $3.2 billion, the company announced today. Based in Germany, Chemetall supplies surface treatment technology for metals to various industries. BASF board member Wayne T. Smith said in a statement Chemetall would be a “strong strategic fit” for the firm’s coatings business. Chemetall has 2,500 employees globally and operates 21 production sites in more than 20 countries.
