Production from the seven most advanced developments in the Vaca Muerta play (covering only 8 percent of play acreage) in Argentina is expected to increase by 43 percent in 2017 to 77,000 boe/d, and to double 2016 levels by 2018 to 113,000 boe/d, according to the new "Vaca Muerta Development Study" by Wood Mackenzie.
"Our scenarios from the study demonstrate that production could peak between 0. 7 and 1.25 million boe/d by 2031," explained Elena Nikolova, Latin America upstream oil and gas research analyst for Wood Mackenzie.
Since January 2017, new pilot and development agreements in the Vaca Muerta have been announced with increased frequency, demonstrating a significant uptick in interest in the play, especially in the gas window.
