Motiva last week announced plans to integrate its refineries in Norco and Convent, La., creating the 500,000-barrel-per-day Louisiana Refining System. Motiva said it would build system of three pipelines, one of which will connect the existing LOCAP terminal in St. James, La., to the Norco refinery. The other two pipelines will connect the Norco and Convent refineries.
Upon completion of the pipelines, Motiva will idle the Convent refinery’s FCC and reconfigure the existing hydrocracker at the Norco refinery to process 30,000 barrels per day of additional gas oil into high quality diesel.
Motiva said the project would increase access to light oil, optimize inter-plant intermediates and conversion units, increase distillate yields and reduce operating costs.
