Continental Refining plans to add a new crude unit and a new distillate hydrotreater this year, the company announced today. Continental said the crude unit would triple its transmix processing capacity and that the 3,500-barrel-per-day hydrotreater would double its distillate hydrotreating capacity. The two projects at the Somerset, Kentucky, refinery are expected to be complete in the second quarter of 2016.
The expanded production will be supported by a public railroad facility in Ferguson, Kentucky, and expanded Ohio River barge operations. Continental has leased space at Citgo’s marine terminal in Louisville, Kentucky, to store product for the refinery.
