Jon Hodges founded Evergreen Industrial Services 17 years ago because he wanted to build a company that focused on the client experience. Therefore, Hodges knew safety and quality had to be held to the highest standard.
Last year, Evergreen Industrial Services/ GEM Mobile Treatment Services and North American Industrial Services merged together to create one of the leading industrial cleaning companies in North America. Strategically, the new company is positioned across 36 operational service locations.
"Our customer base encompasses refining, petrochemical, power, and pulp and paper," Hodges stated. "Our combined portfolio allows us to provide our customers value with unmatched service quality. The entrepreneurial culture of our companies and the combined financial strength position us to change the way the industry services customers."
Success with customers
Customers are thrilled with the services they're receiving from the new, merged company. Evergreen/GEM recently performed hydroblasting and water treatment services for a refinery in the Rocky Mountain region. GEM mobilized its mobile water treatment equipment onto a hydroblasting pad, where it circulated 30,000 gallons for 10 days at an average of 60 gallons per minute. A total of 888,000 gallons of hydroblasting water were treated, and some pH adjustments were made during the treatment process. Overall, the customer avoided needing over 40 additional frac tanks on-site. The customer saved from incurring the expenses of those frac tanks over many months while "bleeding off" water to its wastewater treatment plant.
At the end of the process, the treated water remaining in one frac tank was sent to another tank, where it was tested by the refinery's environmental group. The environmental group confirmed the water's specifications met their discharge criteria, and they were able to discharge the water to the city. The overall satisfaction of the customer was very good.
"We certainly appreciated the efficiency gained by utilizing the Evergreen and GEM hydroblasting and water treatment turnaround services," the customer said. "At the end of the project, we had additional space to accommodate equipment for other contractors working on the turnaround."
GEM also recently performed vapor control during a shutdown for a refinery in Southern California. GEM mobilized 115 MM BTUs of thermal capacity into the crude, coker and C3C4 Merox units at the refinery to control vapors during the turnaround. The customer wanted to ensure these vapors were not sent to the flare, since the flare gas recovery unit was being taken down at the same time for maintenance.
Additionally, GEM's high-flow caustic scrubbers removed over 11,000 pounds of H2S from the vapor stream, resulting in a large credit to the customer. There were some unplanned events during the turnaround after a unit operator fully opened a valve, sending a slug of rich vapors that ultimately shut down the thermal unit. But the unit worked exactly as designed. Its safety feature shut down the unit without incident and allowed GEM to restart quickly and resume vapor control for the customer.
"The turnaround services group was outstanding," the customer stated. "We'll be utilizing them during our next turnaround at our Pacific Northwest facility for a similar project."
