Westlake Chemical said today it is in the process of restarting its Calvert City, Kentucky, complex after an unexpected ethylene unit failure on June 1. Westlake said the unit failure knocked out the entire complex, halting all production. The company said it would report a loss of approximately $40 million during the second and third quarters as a result of the outage.
