Dynamic Laboratories' motto is "We do it right; we do it right now," and according to the company's clients, the team remains steadfast in that promise. That commitment was handed down by Rick and Donna Shepherd, who founded Dynamic Laboratories in 1995.

"Under my parents' leadership, the business grew at over 100 percent per year for nearly a decade," explained Colton. "With my father running the operations and my mother running the office, they built a reputation for speed, accuracy and, above all, integrity."
Donna passed away in 2013, and Rick has since taken on a reduced role at the company. Colton leads the operations now and, by design, does not travel.
"All of our services are performed in-house, though we do outsource NDT," he explained. "Traveling would mean spending more time with a single client and would diminish our ability to serve others with the same attention."
Dynamic Laboratories' services include:
- Welder performance qualification. Welders can be sent to Dynamic, which supplies all materials and tools as well as inspection to code or client specifications. Results and certifications are provided within four business hours of satisfactory completion of a welder's final test.
Qualification can also be performed on completed test coupons shipped to Dynamic. Results and certifications are provided within eight business hours of receipt of all necessary components.
- Welding procedure development/ qualification. Dynamic can work with any code or client specifications and provide any level of involvement the client needs in-house at Dynamic's facility. Welding is monitored by an actual person, not a machine.
- Destructive testing services for materials testing or procedure qualification, including in-house post-weld heat treatment, tensiles, bend, charpy impacts, ferrite point count, corrosion testing, macro/micro photographs, hardness testing and more.
- Welding coupons. Dynamic specializes in coupons for welder qualification and training and can also provide coupons for procedure qualification. All coupons are saw cut with machined bevels, never flame cut.
Going the extra mile
Frede Maxwell, director of welding programs at Team Furmanite, has relied on Dynamic Laboratories exclusively for all the company's welder qualification and welding performance testing for over three years.
"Dynamic Laboratories is my 'go-to' testing laboratory," he said. "If I call them at 5 p.m. and need a weld procedure overnight, they do not hesitate. They get it done.
"I have had them qualify weld procedures at 2 a.m. They always go the extra mile whether it is overnight or all weekend. They have never turned me down. They just figure out a way to get it all done."
