ExxonMobil has rejected a contract renewal offer from the United Steelworkers local union representing workers at its Beaumont, Texas, refinery, Reuters reports. ExxonMobil renewed its offer of a six-year contract that would provide the annual pay raises that are in the current contract and a $4,500-per-member ratification bonus. The union offered the current four-year national contract and an agreement to negotiate the next contract without going on strike.
Sources say ExxonMobil is pushing for a longer agreement to ensure sufficient labor for a proposed expansion that would make the Beaumont refinery the nation’s largest.
