The Louisiana Construction Education Foundation (LCEF) has had a busy and productive start to the year, advancing several key initiatives to further support the growth of the state’s workforce.
Among these is the launch of the statewide Construction Connect Scholars program, which kicked off in January in partnership with the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) and the Louisiana Department of Education. This program aims to provide valuable scholarship opportunities and foster a stronger connection between high school students and careers in the construction industry.
A standout initiative in the program is the Jump Start Construction Connect Scholars scholarship. This is the state’s first and only scholarship dedicated exclusively to Jump Start graduates, offering a unique opportunity for high school seniors in Louisiana who are focused on pursuing careers in construction. The scholarship is specifically designed to bridge the gap between high school and higher education by providing financial support for those who have demonstrated commitment to the construction industry during their academic careers.
Applications for the scholarship are now open to all qualifying high school seniors across Louisiana. Up to 40 onetime scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded to students who meet the eligibility criteria. These scholarships are intended to help students enroll in LCTCS construction pathway programs or an ABC training program during the summer or fall semester following their high school graduation. The deadline for applications is April 30, and the application form is available on the Louisiana Believes website.
To qualify for the Jump Start Construction Connect Scholars program, applicants must meet several criteria. They must be high school seniors who have earned NCCER credentials, be on track to receive a Jump Start Career Diploma and plan to enroll in a construction-focused educational pathway program. Additionally, applicants must be committed to continuing their education in the summer or fall semester after graduation. Full eligibility details are available on the application site.
The LCEF Board of Directors will evaluate applications based on several factors, including the strength of the industry credentials earned by the student, letters of recommendation, participation in career and technical student organizations and overall academic achievements, such as GPA and recognition in skills competitions. The goal of the scholarship is not only to reward academic success but also to recognize students who have actively engaged in career-focused learning experiences.
This program is part of a broader effort by the LCEF to invest in the future of Louisiana’s workforce. By supporting students who are pursuing careers in construction, the foundation is helping to provide life-changing opportunities that can lead to long-term career growth and development. The construction industry, with its wide range of high-demand positions, offers individuals the potential for a fulfilling and sustainable career, from skilled trades to management and leadership roles.
The Jump Start Construction Connect Scholars program is an invaluable resource for Louisiana’s ambitious youth, giving them the financial support and industry connections needed to thrive in the construction sector. By encouraging students to apply, you can help spread the word about this incredible opportunity that is shaping the future of Louisiana’s workforce.
Together, we can ensure that these scholarships reach the students who will become the next generation of leaders in the construction industry.
