President Donald Trump desires to make the U.S. energy independent. He hopes to do so with his recent “Energy Independence” executive order. He believes the U.S. can serve the twin goals of protecting the environment while providing clean air and clean water, in hopes of getting the EPA back to its core mission. At the same time, President Trump wants to move forward on energy production. The executive order will look back at a number of policies from the Obama administration that President Trump believes should either be reviewed or taken off the books immediately.
The executive order will provide the beginning framework for a strategy on energy. In this framework, each executive department and agency in the U.S. government will be responsible for identifying all regulations, rules, policies and guidance documents that serve as obstacles or impediments to domestic energy production.
API CEO Jack Gerard called President Trump’s “Energy Independence” executive order an important step forward in restoring commonsense regulations needed to advance the U.S. energy renaissance.
“The actions by President Trump are an important step toward increasing American competitiveness and recognizing our industry is part of the solution to advancing U.S. economic and national security goals,” said Gerard. “Science-based guidance and regulations will help our nation’s ‘energy renaissance’ continue to provide benefits for American consumers, workers and the environment.”
AFPM President and CEO Chet Thompson believes the Trump a dministration has followed through on one of its key campaign promises of regulatory reform.
“America’s energy producers will no longer be handcuffed by arbitrary regulations seeking to keep our resources in the ground,” said Thompson. “President Trump’s actions will provide essential relief to consumers and manufacturers by ending unnecessary restrictions that would drive up the cost of energy and obstruct job growth.”
