Whenever groups of people need to be relocated or are temporarily displaced, there is the need for provisional life support facilities to sustain them. These relocations or displacements are often due to natural disasters like hurricanes.
At a minimum, displaced populations require the need for shelter from the elements, basic sustenance, potable drinking water and sanitary facilities. In addition, facilities may also be required to fulfill the needs of law enforcement, fire protection, and medical, educational and administrative services.
Throughout hurricane season, Deployed Resources personnel constantly monitor the weather to ensure they are prepared to provide everything needed for these displaced populations.
- Monitoring the storm: As storm systems develop, Deployed Resources actively monitors their potential tracks. The only "good" thing about hurricanes -- as compared to other types of natural disasters -- is that there is warning they are coming, and you can at least narrow down the region and timeframe in which they will make landfall.
- Six-plus days out from landfall: Deployed Resources reaches out to any existing clients and local government agencies that have any chance of sustaining damage. They work with their teams to see if there are any assets that should be staged on-site pre-hurricane, based on each site's needs.
- Three to five days out from landfall: Current technology and tracking systems usually do a good job of predicting where a storm will hit and its probable intensity at landfall. At this point before landfall, Deployed Resources starts moving gear from its strategically located storage yards to the storage yards best suited for response. They also pull any assets out of harm's way and leave those assets stored on trucks and held safely out of the storm's path. This ensures Deployed Resources teams are ready to get to work as soon as they start receiving phone calls after the storm.
Deployed Resources also starts to put project managers on-site with their clients. The company has a representative as part of the response team, enabling them to respond to needs the second they are brought up. If the response team encounters a problem, they have the solution. Any needs that are identified pre-hurricane will be brought in and set up.
- Two to three days out from landfall: All Deployed Resources staff is activated and sent to a staging yard safe from the storm but close to where their services will be needed. Local and federal governments are made aware of all equipment Deployed Resources has available.
- One day out from landfall: Deployed Resources makes sure all crews are rested and gear is loaded on trailers so everything is ready to go immediately when a call for support is received.
- During the storm: Deployed Resources maintains constant contact with clients, along with local and federal government agencies.
- After the storm: Once the storm has passed and needs are identified, Deployed Resources sends scouts ahead of its semitrucks to check routes, perform site surveys and identify additional unforeseen needs. Once secured on-site, they rapidly deploy their gear so crews can get to work, providing turnkey life support systems and services.
Typical requirements for displaced populations may last anywhere from a weekend to a year. With a large inventory of strategically staged assets, in-house transportation capabilities and proven experience, Deployed Resources stands ready to respond.
