The Houston Ship Channel was closed for nearly three hours on Monday after a fire broke out aboard a chemical tanker moored at the Targa LPG export terminal. Via Reuters, the fire was extinguished after nearly 90 minutes, but the channel remained closed while firefighters monitored the air for toxic fumes.
The Coast Guard said the fire broke out while the tanker was being loaded with ethylene. No injuries reported.
The shutdown may have postponed some oil deliveries to local refineries owned by Valero, LyondellBasell and Petrobras.
