Global biodiesel production is expected to increase by 33% between 2015 and 2025, according to a new report by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization.
U.S. biodiesel consumption is expected to reach 11 billion liters by 2025, the researchers said. Biodiesel use in the U.S. will be driven by stronger advanced mandates by the EPA and lower ethanol use resulting from the 10% “blend wall.” Biodiesel production in the U.S. is expected to reach 9.7 billion liters in 2025, with much of the remaining demand to be met by imports from Argentina.
The European Union will be the key driver of biodiesel production as its members fulfill mandates outlined by the Renewable Energy Directive of 2009.
