It is often difficult to find oil and gas content that is shareable, informative and without prejudice. However, ConocoPhillips has made the search a lot easier with its Power in Cooperation™ initiative. Land on the website https://powerincooperation.com, and you’ll find a well-curated site that delivers oil and gas-related speeches, data, issues and policies to your desktop computer, tablet, laptop or mobile device.
“The website combines education with engagement, as we wanted to provide a platform that offers our employees, community members and external stakeholders relevant and timely industry information about issues that impact them,” said ConocoPhillips Communications Advisor Andrea Urbanek. “The site contains share-able content, including videos, infographics, fact sheets and profiles from some of our community members.”
Power in Cooperation was originally launched in 2011 to provide information on the benefits of natural gas. In early 2015, the site was updated with a new look, feel and grassroots advocacy functionality to support ConocoPhillips and industry’s efforts to lift the ban on U.S. crude oil exports, and the efforts paid off.
“We initiated several calls to action on crude exports during 2015,” explained Urbanek. “One of these calls to action enabled our employees and community members to send pre-drafted letters to the editors of their local papers, resulting in more than 860 submissions. As the year drew to a close and we learned that language to lift the ban on crude oil exports could potentially be included in the Omnibus bill, we activated over 2,800 individuals who, with just a few clicks, sent more than 8,000 letters to members of Congress to support lifting the ban.
“As the ban was lifted toward the end of 2015, we’ve shifted the site’s focus this year. Users can now find educational information on key issues like fracking and regulations, anecdotal stories about the impact our company and industry has throughout the United States, details about public policy issues that are critical to our business, information about how oil and gas impact their daily lives, and local con-tent specific to our communities.”
Perhaps the most timely addition to the site is its “Election 2016” tab. Urbanek noted this portal allows U.S. voters easy access to information from local, state and federal candidates. It also provides polling locations, voter registration details and state-specific election information.
“One of Power in Cooperation’s most important features for our stakeholders and community members is allowing them the ability to take action and communicate directly with their elected officials and policy makers, and even local newspapers,” stated Urbanek. “Once a user signs up for Power in Cooperation, he or she can find all the above resources with a few simple clicks and without having to search for any elected officials’ or policy makers’ contact information, as the website stores this data.”
These features fulfill the goal of Power in Cooperation, which is to pro-vide timely and relevant industry information to ConocoPhillips’ stakeholders and community members while simultaneously enabling them to easily take action on pertinent issues. Everyone from ConocoPhillips’ employees to people who live in the communities where the company operates to citizens who just want to learn more about the energy industry plays an active role in the site.
“We believe cooperation starts with information, and an informed discussion can lead to sound policy decisions,” expressed Urbanek.
