ExxonMobil has started production at its Julia oil field in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, the company announced today. The field is located approximately 265 miles southwest of New Orleans in approximately 7,000 feet of water. ExxonMobil said the first production well is online and a second well will start producing in the coming weeks. A third well is being drilled and is expected to come online early next year.
The Julia field includes five leases in the Walker Ridge area of the gulf. ExxonMobil and Statoil hold 50% interests in the field.
ExxonMobil said it is on track to start up 10 new upstream projects in 2016 and 2017.
