According to Aaron Brady, Senior Director, Energy for IHS Markit, the United States’ crude exports are “going to get bigger and bigger,” as long as U.S. production continues to grow.
“In fact, depending on the circumstances,” Brady said, addressing delegates at CERAWeek by IHS Markit held recently in Houston, Texas, “I would say the U.S. could be a bigger crude exporter than just about any OPEC country, other than Saudi Arabia, in the next ten or so years.” Brady added that he believes the U.S. will be “a unique crude exporter,” in the sense that as it becomes a bigger exporter, it will remain a very large importer of crude. “It’s going to continue to import a lot of medium and heavy crude because, of course, the Gulf Coast refineries are especially designed to run those medium and heavy crudes. And that’s probably not going to change.”
Cynthia Walker, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Midstream Operations and Development for Occidental Petroleum Corporation; Brent Secrest, Senior Vice President for Enterprise Products Partners L.P. and Corey Prologo, Director of the North American Oil Trading, Trafigura Trading LLC joined Brady on a panel titled “The New U.S. Oil Export Powerhouse.” Darryl Rogers, Vice President, Midstream Oil and NGL, Research and Consulting, Energy for IHS Markit moderated the session.
