Live Oak LNG on Tuesday announced its plans to build a $2 billion natural gas export terminal on the Calcasieu Ship Channel in southwest Louisiana. Via the Lafayette, La., Daily Advertiser, the plant would open in 2019 and create 100 direct jobs and 385 indirect jobs. The Live Oak LNG facility will be designed with a capacity of up to 5 million metric tons per year and two 130,000-cubic-meter storage tanks.
The facility is the latest in a line of LNG export terminals proposed in southwest Louisiana. Two of the four U.S. LNG export terminals currently under construction reside in the region — Sempra Energy’s Cameron LNG terminal in Hackberry, La., and Cheniere Energy’s Sabine Pass LNG terminal in Sabine, La.
Live Oak LNG is a subsidiary of Houston-based Parallax Energy.
