-Cheniere Energy will make a final investment decision on its Corpus Christi LNG project within 30 days, Reuters reports. Cheniere has secured financing for the project and signed a $9.5 billion EPC contract with Bechtel. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved construction of the facility in January.
-The oil price plunge has had a disparate impact on the upstream and downstream sectors, and it's reflected in the respective career outlooks of oil and gas and refining workers. Most oil and gas workers value job security over high salaries, according to a new survey by consulting firm Mercer. Via FuelFix, Mercer representatives say it’s the first time job security has ranked higher than base pay in any survey they have done. Refining employees, on the other hand, said they are more focused on career opportunities, retirement packages, incentives and other bonuses than job security.
-Workers on strike at LyondellBasell’s Houston refinery are set to vote on the company’s latest offer this week. Via Reuters, the company can declare an impasse and impose rules in place of a contract if its offer is rejected. The local United Steelworkers union on Sunday recommended its members reject the offer.
-Magellan Midstream Partners and TransCanada will build a nine-mile pipeline connecting TransCanada’s Houston tank terminal to Magellan’s East Houston terminal. The project would give TransCanada’s Keystone and Marketlink shippers access to Magellan’s Houston and Texas City, Texas, crude oil distribution system. The pipeline is expected to be complete late next year. TransCanada’s Houston terminal will be complete this year.
-Canada’s natural resources minister on Tuesday said his country is ready to work with U.S. authorities to reduce emissions. Via Bloomberg, Natural Resources Minister Greg Rickford said a “continental approach” is the best way to improve environmental performance and energy security. Canada has faced criticism over TransCanada’s proposed plan to build the Keystone XL pipeline, which environmental groups contend would cause a surge in emissions from oil sands operations.
