Chevron and W.R. Grace & Co. today announced plans build a new joint-venture residue hydroprocessing catalyst plant and additional alumina capacity at Grace’s existing facility in Lake Charles, La. Construction of the $135 million plant is expected to begin later this year, with completion expected in 2018.
Grace said the new facility would meet catalyst demand from refiners investing in fixed bed resin hydrotreating and ebullating bed resid hydrocracking process technologies.
Grace has spent $100 million in upgrades to the Lake Charles facility over the past six years, including increased specialty aluminas production capacity.
