Celanese and Mitsui have started up their 1.3 million-metric-ton-per-year methanol unit in Clear Lake, Texas. Celanese said its aggressive project plan allowed it to complete the unit within 19 months and start production within 21 months.
Platts notes that the Clear Lake unit it is the largest methanol plant in the U.S. It is also the second new methanol plant to start up in the U.S. this year. In January, Methanex began operating a methanol plant it relocated from Chile to Geismar, Louisiana.
