According to Brian Vogel, projecting engineering manager for Dow Chemical Company, it is essential for owners to clearly define expectations when selecting engineering and procurement contractors for advance work packing (AWP) projects.
“One of the first things we’re going to ask is, ‘What is the level of AWP engagement at your company?’ I would expect that if they say, ‘What’s AWP? I’ve never heard of it,’ maybe we need to have a conversation about what our expectation is and where things are going to go from there,” Vogel said, speaking at the 2017 AWP Conference — Unlocking the AWP Model: Standardized, Scalable, Practical and Consistent — held recently in Houston. “We also need to determine the compatibility of what we’ve laid out with the EPC company’s internal work processes to make sure we’re all working toward the same goal.”
Vogel was joined by Silvana Lara, Fluor’s global director of advanced work packaging, and Heath Luis, Fluor’s director of global construction services, in the presentation discussing best practices in engineering and procurement contractor selection.
