CIMA Services LP was recently awarded the construction of five tank rings via a lump-sum, hard bid by Hayward Baker Inc. Hayward Baker used proprietary technology to cement/stabilize the existing subgrade materials. CIMA cut the cement-stabilized material to grade, installed the concrete ring walls, completed the backfill, installed geosynthetic clay liner and then topped each ring wall with asphalt. Tank rings were 18 inches wide by 27 inches high, with approximately 50 pounds per linear foot of No. 9 and No. 10 rebar. The client dictated the backfill be completed with on-site spoil materials, making it particularly difficult to meet spec without manipulation. Hayward Baker relied on CIMA to get the ring walls backfilled properly for the client. Project conditions were unfavorable, but the delivery schedule was met. CIMA completed the project on schedule without incident.
“CIMA was proud to serve as a subcontractor and be part of this terminal expansion project in Galveston, Texas,” said Colin Dodd, senior project m anager of CIMA Services. “This project displayed the synergies produced through CIMA’s diverse service offerings that include civil, structural, mechanical and our specialized coatings divisions. CIMA is an industry leader in performing construction, mechanical and environmentally sensitive contracting and offers over 50 years of combined relevant experience in projects involving all facets of industrial services.”
CIMA’s full construction specifics included:
- Five concrete tank rings: two at 150 feet, one at 131 feet, one at 116 feet and one at 100 feet. Tanks included a geosynthetic clay liner and asphalt top.
- The project took four months to complete.
- Estimated project value was $800,000.
- CIMA’s man-hours worked totaled 6,400.
