A ruptured underground pipeline owned by Shell spilled 21,000 gallons of crude oil near San Francisco on Monday. Via the San Francisco Gate, Shell shut down its San Pablo Bay pipeline and sent a response team to clear contaminated soil and monitor environmental conditions. The cause of the rupture has not yet been identified. The spill did not affect any waterways.
Earlier this month a Shell-owned underwater pipeline system spilled 2,100 barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. Shell said the spill did not affect the coastline or fisheries.
