The electrostatic precipitator that exploded last month at ExxonMobil’s Torrance, Calif., refinery caught fire Wednesday. Via the Daily Breeze, a crack in a line under the unit allowed petroleum product to leak, sparking the fire. ExxonMobil and local firefighters extinguished the fire within 15 minutes. No injuries were reported.
The Feb. 18 explosion injured four workers and blew ash into nearby neighborhoods. Air quality authorities said over-pressurization in the electrostatic precipitator caused the blast.
