Oil sands producers Syncrude, Suncor and Shell have cut production as wildfires rage through Fort McMurray, Alberta. Via CBC, the fires have destroyed about 19 square miles and forced 80,000 people to evacuate.
Suncor and Syncrude both said they were reducing operations despite no present danger to their operations so that employees and their families could get to safety. Shell said its Albian Sands facility is not under fire danger, but it has been shut down as a precaution. Several companies operating in the oil sands have opened up their work camps to evacuees.
