Job growth in Pasadena, Texas, is expected to exceed 40% over the next 10 years, according to Sperling’s Best Places. The refining and petrochemical sector will play a significant role — along the stretch between Highways 146 and 225 you can find major facilities such as Pasadena Refining Systems, Shell and Houston Refining.

This local employment boom is emblematic of the growth that has taken place in the Gulf Coast downstream sector amid the shale revolution. Companies operating in the Gulf Coast region are expected to invest billions in new petrochemical construction and expansion projects over the next few years. The Greater Houston area stands to benefit in a big way.

Regional service providers are gearing up for this growth. The Houston Area Safety Council, for instance, recently opened a 17,000-square-foot facility in Pasadena that will host more than 1,600 visitors per day. This will complement the extensive safety training, workforce development and medical testing capability already available at the council’s existing 65,000-square-foot facility in Pasadena.

Houston-area contractors have growing needs for safety, welding and industrial supplies. As business booms, these companies will increasingly look to local vendors to provide them with fast and cost-efficient products and services tailored to their needs.
