The Turnaround Management Company (TTMC) employees are experienced, educated and dedicated, but, more than that, they have some interesting pastimes.

He’s a racy guy

Doug Brubaker joined TTMC in 2005. His career has always centered on providing services for the refining and petrochemical industries, so he was a good fit as the new manager of internal operations. He’s been an industrial trainer, a rotating equipment machine shop manager, and he was a teacher at a junior college in his hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas, where he taught practical trades like welding, pipe fitting, plate layout, blueprint reading, basic math and basic trigonometry.

But Brubaker’s not all business, all of the time. This soft-spoken man is pretty racy. He’s a motorcycle enthusiast who likes to pit his skills against other competitors in the sport of Motocross racing. He’s also fond of 4-wheelers (ATVs), and midget and dwarf cars. He’s also coached a championship women’s kickball team!

Clowning around

TTMC Document Control Specialist Annette Clermont is serious about her job. And one of her mottos is, “Don’t clown around with safety.” She takes the point home when performing at safety meetings as her character “Nettles the Clown.” Clermont is a professional clown and also performs for many special community and charitable events.

She said, “I so enjoy bringing smiles to everyone when I’m dressed as ‘Nettles the Clown.’ If I can bring smiles to faces and bring safety to mind, then I feel very good too. If I can touch someone with a smile, boost morale with a safety poem or slogan, or just encourage everyone to be safe, my job for the day is complete. I’m glad to be a part of The Turnaround Management Company, and I will always give 110 percent so that TTMC can be proud to have me as one of their employees.”
Learning never stops

James Tompkins is a turnaround logistics coordinator working for TTMC at an ExxonMobil California facility. As such, Tompkins makes sure things like construction trailers, porta-cans, lunch facilities, catering services, safety signage and the like are on site when needed.

He’s been at this job for three years and gets to see his family back in the Houston area only occasionally. So what does he do after the work day? Tompkins said that he wanted to do something productive with his time away from work.

“Since I couldn’t do things with my family because they are several states away,” he said, “I decided it was the ideal time to pursue a lifelong dream.”

With the time at hand, he applied to The University of Management & Technology and was accepted. Fortunately, classes were conducted online, and in July, Tompkins received his bachelor’s degree in business administration.

TTMC employees actively support community and charitable events

The Turnaround Management Company is a proud supporter and sponsor of the Special Olympics Texas Spring Games. Competitors who enter the Special Olympics not only develop a more positive self-image, but their practice time helps them improve their level of physical fitness and helps them develop and improve their motor skills.

TTMC participates in a number of other activities that benefit charitable organizations such as the Shell-Motiva Norco, La., Site United Way Golf Tournament; The ExxonMobil “Shoot from the Heart” event benefiting the American Heart Association; The Valero Texas Open Golf Classic Benefit for Children, which raised $8 million this year; Shell Chemicals Deer Park, Texas, Boys & Girls Harbor Annual Golf Tournament; the San Jacinto College Foundation Rohm & Haas Golf Tournament; and BP’s United Way campaign.

This year TTMC sponsored Lisa French in the Clear Lake Area Lunar Rendezvous festival. She is the daughter of TTMC’s Gary French, and she was chosen as a festival princess.

Employees receive numerous benefits.

The Turnaround Management Company gives its employees a cash bonus when they refer potential employees with the qualifications needed by TTMC clients. Employees receive $500 when the person they referred is hired by TTMC, and they receive another $250 if that person is still working for TTMC after six months. That’s a total of a $750 bonus reward — not a bad deal at all, and everybody wins when highly qualified and capable people work for TTMC clients.

While many employers are cutting back on their employee benefits packages, The Turnaround Management Company is always working to provide better, more flexible benefits to its employees. Part of the company’s health insurance plan is called an FSA (flexible spending account). At the beginning of each year, employees indicate what amount they want deducted from their paycheck to cover doctor visits, check-ups, etc. Whatever amount they have indicated then accumulates in the annual account and is available for payout when needed. Current TTMC benefits include:

• Medical and dental insurance.
• Life insurance.
• Accidental death and dismemberment insurance.
• Supplemental life insurance.
• Short-term disability insurance.
• Long-term disability insurance.
• 401(k) employee retirement savings plan.
• New employee referral bonus plan.
• Medical flexible spending account.
• Dependent care reimbursement plan.
• Paid time off.
• Elective banking plan.

PCMS® software is now Web-based

The Turnaround Management Company’s PCMS (Project Control Management System) has more advantages and features than ever before — and it can now be accessed from anywhere in the world via the Internet.

PCMS developers say that the new layers within the program better match the client’s budget, schedule and SAP structuring because it makes an “apples-to-apples” comparison.

The Turnaround Management Company’s PCMS software developers were very security conscious so that users and their data would be protected. Access to the system has been simplified. Rather than having a complicated series of calculations, there is now an encrypted password that allows user access. The enterprise organizational structure built into PCMS allows a client to decide who can review the actual data and reports of the TTMC Cost Engineer (it is a read-only feature). There is also a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) to prevent hackers from sniffing at data or passwords, and there is a Windows™ authentications system. Primary and secondary data back-up tapes are located at a secure location. The primary tape can go back as much as 24 hours.
